Tannat
A black variety, originally from France

Summary

A variety known for producing deeply colored and very tannic wines, which can either take considerable age, or considerable winemaking effort to tame in their youth. While classically associated with Madiran AOC, many high quality examples are now produced throughout the new world, perhaps most notably in Uruguay.
