Sangiovese
A black variety, originally from Italy

Summary

While strongly associated with the wines of Tuscany, its the most planted grape in all of Italy. It needs a sunny site and a long growing season, but produces the best wines when a mitigating factor, such as altitude, helps constrain yields.
