Gamay Noir
A black variety, originally from France

Summary

Grape capable of producing high yields known for relatively light, red-fruit based wines most strongly associated with Beaujolais. Historically, it is often compared with Pinot Noir and is similarly rarely used in blends, but has achieved less commercial success and the resultant wines tend to be less complex. High quality examples can be produced when yields are constrained.
