Canaiolo Nero
A black variety, originally from Italy

Summary

This varietal once dominated the Tuscan wine industry, providing soft tannin and floral notes to the wines of Chianti. Post-Phylloxera, it did not perform well when grafted onto resistant rootstock and has been largely supplanted by Sangiovese. Today its primary role is as a more minor blending grape.
