Veneto
Summary
Italy’s most productive wine region, spanning Venice in the west, Lake Garda in the east and alps near the Austrian border. Flat sites in the south experience humidity and fog from the Po River and Alto-Adige River, requiring sprays to combat rot and disease. Cooling influences are provided by altitude. DOC wines represent over half of production volumes, and while good quality wine is common, drastic enlargements into fertile plains, and exceptionally high yields have lead to wines with low intensity. High exports of Pinot Grigio and Prosecco.
