Sancerre AOC

Summary

Area producing Loire Valley's most famous wines. Racy, pungent, dry whites alongside bright reds and rosé. Favourable topography and south facing slopes allow for drainage of high rainfall, and sunlight interception. Caillotte, Terre Blanche and Silex soils are all found within this region, providing marked nuances in wine. High permitted yields can contribute to lower intensity in wine if not managed. White wines rarely see new oak and command premium pricing on export markets. Famous sites include Les Montes Damnés (Chavignol) and Les Belles Dames.
