San Juan IG

Summary

A large wine-producing GI, located immediately north of Mendoza. It has relatively diverse terrain, rangeing from fertile valleys to high-altitude mountainous regions, allowing for a variety of wine styles.

While the climate is predominantly Continental, it is also semi-arid, with low annual rainfall that makes irrigation a necessity in viticulture. At the best sites, significant sunlight is coupled with the Wide Diurnal Range, promoting the development of rich, ripe flavors while retaining acidity.

The are is particularly known for Syrah, which thrives in the sunny conditions. The wines tend to be rich, full-bodied, and often show ripe black fruit, spice, and chocolate notes.
