Saint-Émilion AOC

Summary

This area produces more red wine than any appellation on Bordeaux's right bank. Lying on the banks of the Dordogne River, clay rich calcareous soils dominate. Style variations include light, fruity, early drinking wines to concentrated age worthy expressions. The classification of this area is based on individual properties (similar to left bank), but with regular revisions every 10 years. Home to premium priced Garage wines, a term now widely adopted globally, referring to wines made in small quantities but with great ambition.
