Portugal
Summary
European country which borders the Atlantic Ocean and Spain. While compact in size, there is large climatic diversity, and a unique array of indigenous grapes featured. Uncertified organic farming and traditional winemaking techniques are common, alongside significant industrial investment and modernisation. Most famous for its fortified styles, and a medium sweet rosé wine called Mateus (est.1942). While domestic consumption is high, exports are the main industry focus. Wines are often high quality with an affordable price point.
