Niagara Peninsula GI

Summary

Appellation of Ontario situated between Lake Ontario to the north and Lake Erie to the south. Contains 80% of all vineyards in the province. Unusual for a northerly region, the grapes are planted on a north-facing bluff to take advantage of the moderating lake effects from Lake Ontario, encouraging a relatively mild climate with warm summers and cool winters. A range of wine styles are produced. Red, white, sparkling, ice wines, and late-harvest dessert styles can be found.
