Mornington Peninsula Region

Summary

This region is within Port Phillip Zone, on a narrow pensinsula between Port Phillip Bay and the Bass Strait. Known for producing high quality cool-climate wines made from Burgundian varieties. Constant winds regulate summer temperatures and decrease frost-risk, but can reduce yields by interrupting flowering and fruit set. The Red Hill Ridge has sites at altitude and unique water holding red basalt soils. The rest of the region is flat in comparison, with free draining soils. An area of small wineries, on-site restaurants and cellar-door sales.
