Mclaren Vale Region

Summary

One of the oldest wine producing regions in Australia, located in the Fleurieu Zone peninsula of South Australia. A large area of complex soils and micro-climates, cooling exposures from the Gulf St. Vincent and descending Adelaide Hills' breezes offset hot summer temperatures. With rainfall falling mostly in the winter, disease pressure is low, and organic sustainable viticulture is common. Red wine production varies from high-volume and mechanized to premium wines made from grapes grown on low yielding ungrafted very old bush vines. Sustainable irrigation is sourced from boreholes and recycled waste water.
