Loire Valley

Summary

The most diverse wine region of France that follows the longest river of the same name. Third largest production by volume, the domestic market is most important, with many wines widely underrated outside of France. A region of consolidated family holdings, low intervention and natural wines are common with many farming organically and biodynamically. Wines are known for their freshness and delicacy, rather than by heft and ageability. Distinct climatic differences can be found, therefore, the region is best assessed by looking at four distinct departments. There is no overarching regional appellation for this area as a whole.
