Lirac AOC

Summary

Across the river from Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, this is a large and growing appellation with an increased quality focus. High sunlight hours and free draining soils contribute to increased fruit intensity. Wines are mainly red blends with small amounts of rosé and full bodied blended whites also produced. Rules stipulate for reds and rosés that Grenache Noir, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsaut must be 90% of the final blend. Reds are soft and earlier maturing than its famous neighbour, with rosé wines offering a good value alternative to Tavel.
