Summary

Home to six communes of the left bank. Gravel soil dominates within this area, which lies on the banks of the Gironde estuary. Appellation is for red wine only with maximum yields of 55hL/ha. Wines are blends, which are aged in French oak, capable of bottle age and command super premium pricing. Home to 60 leading châteaux from the 1855 classification of classed growths, and numerous cru bourgeois awarded wines.
