Gigondas AOC

Summary

An Southern Rhône cru with noted wines since Roman times. This area experiences high diurnal ranges and slow ripening conditions from high elevations (600m) and from shade provided by the Dentelles de Montmirail range. Restricted yields of 35hL/ha, also contribute to increased intensity in wine, and although winemaking standards are high, the red and rosé wines from this area are often considered rustic in style. Grenache must be 50% of the blend, alongside at least one (or both) Syrah and/or Mourvèdre. Reds are capable of extended bottle ageing and are of good value.
