Friuli-Venezia-Giulia DOC

Summary

This region in North East Italy borders Austria and Slovenia. Broadly divided by fertile plains in the south and low hills in the north. The southern alluvial plains border the Adriatic sea and experience high rainfall. Bulk production is prominent here with international grapes common. The hills are where higher quality wines can be found with less rainfall, constrained yields and a native grape focus. Production is predominately white, although there are also red, orange and sparkling wines found. The area is noted for its single estate production.
