Crozes-Hermitage AOC
Summary
Refers to the flatter area surrounding the base of Hermitage AOC. This appellation is the largest of the Northern Rhône and has seen considerable changes and extensions over the last 20 years. Production volumes are 11 x higher than the famed Hermitage hill. Red wine production dominates, allowing for blends of up to 15% white grapes, theoretically allowed at fermentation. The best wines are generally softer, fruitier, and do not have the same longevity as its famous counterpart. 1/10 of production is of white wine blends.
