Coteaux du Layon AOC

Summary

Large area located on the right bank of the Layon River in the Anjou. Specialising in botrytis-affected or late harvest sweet white wines. Strict rules apply to maximum yields (35 hL/ha) and minimum potential alcohol levels (14% abv) Wines that are labelled Coteaux du Layon + named village have even further restrictions (30hL/ha and minimum 15% abv). Low demand for sweet wines have led to a reduction of production with an increasing focus on dry expressions.
