Coonawarra Region

Summary

Isolated inland region within the Limestone Coast Zone. Uniquely, this area experiences a maritime climate due to coastal conditions reaching inland across flat topography. Often compared to Bordeaux in regards to climate and varietal choices and known for Cabernet Sauvignon with a distinct mint or eucalyptus aroma. Unique soil types such as iron-rich terra rossa naturally reduce vigour and yield by inhibiting vine's mineral and nutrient uptake. Mechanisation is commonplace due to increasing labour shortages. Respected region showcasing some of Australia's finest wines.
