Chianti DOCG

Summary

Large red wine focused area in Tuscany with many vineyards at lower elevations than its classico sites. Flexible regulations requiring just 70% Sangiovese with the allowance of international grapes and white grape blends, alongside relatively high permitted yields has led to very irregular wine quality. Short term ageing without the specification of oak maturation contributes to a light wine style and lower production costs. There are seven sub-zones with unique vineyard sites and increased regulations.
