Summary

Historic heart of Chianti and considered to produce the best wines. Higher elevations lead to cool nights and higher retained acidity. Galestro soils contribute to aromatics, and clay based sites provide wines of increased structure and body. Minimum 80% of Sangiovese is required, with white grapes unallowed. Ageing for a full year is required. Over two years for riserva wines. Labels may mention single vineyards.
