Côtes de Beaune
Summary
Southern half of the Côte d’Or escarpment, famous for white Burgundian wine. High proportions of pale clay make this area more suitable to Chardonnay as this grape can ripen more easily in these cooler soils. There is also quality red production, with one Grand Cru allotted. Both white and red styles are often fermented and aged in oak, contributing to a full mouthfeel. These wines can age for a decade or more in the bottle.
