Summary
This Atlantic influenced wine region in Southwestern France is dominated by blended Red production (85%). Today the sale price of top wine is still influenced by a history classification from 1855, but the vast majority of the wine produced is of acceptable or good quality, with generic labelling. The rivers Garonne and Dordogne split the region into distinct areas. The Left bank to the west of the rivers, Right bank to the east, and the area between the rivers collectively known as Entre-deux-Mers. Organic viticulture is rare, due to high humidity and disease pressure, but is increasingly practised. Cooperatives play an important role to the industry.
