Bairrada DOC

Summary

This varied appellation within The Beiras is a lead producer of traditional method sparkling wines, but most famous for its medium dry Mateus rosé made with the Baga grape. This area also produces white and red wine, with one of the very few examples of single varietal red wines found in Portugal. Exposure to the Atlantic coast promotes maritime conditions with heavy rainfall falling in spring and autumn. Limestone clay soils can be found in the unofficial southern subregion of Cantanhede.
