Summary
Located in France’s north east. Historically annexed back and forth between Germany, which influenced local language and winemaking culture. 90% of wine produced is white with a focus on four aromatic and semi-aromatic noble varieties. The region follows the River Rhine with the Bas-Rhin area in the north and Haut-Rhin located in the south. Separated from the rest of France by the Vosges mountain range, this region experiences a cool climate with high amounts of sunshine and very dry conditions. Canopies are trained high to ensure maximum sunlight interception. 15% of vineyards are certified organic. Mandatory tall flute glass bottling.
